Sorry it's taken me so long to catch up! We went to the Apenheul one week ago, on Whit Monday. That is the last public holiday until December 5th, which is the arrival of Sinterklaas. A reader asked whether Queen's Day could be bigger than Christmas. I have a feeling it could be, but it remains to be seen. Someone here told me that the two biggest events are Queen's Day and Sinterklaas' arrival (by boat, from Spain). This person didn't specify which is actually bigger.The Apenheul is also located in Apeldoorn and we visited there on the last day of our three-day weekend last week. Liliane loves all primates and sometimes pretends that there is a monkey in our home our car by imitating their sounds. We figured she would like it and we were right. Although we were warned that the residents there roamed freely and we had to put our belongings in "monkey-proof" bags, all the habitats seemed to be surrounded by moats and fences, similar to what I have seen in other zoos. The habitats, however, were very roomy and seemed rather tropical.
