June 12 to June 15

On Thursday, June 12, I went with my friend Kim to the Tuschinski Theatre to see Sex and the City, the movie. The Tuschinski is a grand old theatre, replete with red carpeting and complete with box seats. The place was crawling with women all dolled up. I hadn't even thought of dressing up and Kim had come directly from work, so she wasn't dressed up either. We ran into some friends there, so we all got together and had glasses of champagne before the movie began. Yes, champagne, and you can drink it in the theatre.

Friday night, Dan and I were supposed to go to an organized pub night. On our way there, we stopped at a little spot in the Pijp called Burgermeester that sells gourmet hamburgers on freshly baked buns. We grabbed some burger suggestion cards so we can come up with a Burger of the Month. After the yummy meal, we passed by some effaced Laser on our way to a canalside bar called the Amstelhaven. I couldn't find anyone we knew, so we decided to hang out and watch Holland win against France and move onto the European Cup Quarterfinals. The crowd went crazy. As we walked to the tram stop, lo and behold we encountered more of Laser's handiwork.

Sunday was Father's Day, so we went to a Turkish cafe called Theatercafe Mozaik for brunch. A friend had recommended it and so we ordered the grand Turkish Breakfast. It was wonderful, with three different kinds of cheese, smoked beef with nuts, yogurt with honey, different phyllo-wrapped savory snacks, eggs, jam, bread, tomato-onion salad and tea. There was a theater of some sort upstairs. Liliane sacked out during the smorgasbord which was lucky for us because she probably would have eaten the entire thing.





In the afternoon, we went to a huge park called Amstelpark. There were many paths and a forest you could walk through. There was a glass house by , a train (not open for rides on Sundays), and a playground with a huge slide to take on your way out. That evening, we finished our day at a nearby gelato place called Pisa Ijs.
